In challenging times, leaders need to retain and engage their teams more than ever.
In my leadership coaching and training, I help leaders to understand how they can be at their best and implement practical ways to lead even more effectively.
Research and experience have shown that the following 3 elements make the biggest difference in increasing employee engagement at work…
#1 Enable your team members to understand that what they are doing is important. And think about how you can feel more connected to the vision and purpose too!
Think about how you can create an emotional connection, community, and sense of purpose to the work done everyday. This will help motivate teams and increase performance.
#2 Ensure that your team members feel successful. And consider what you need to do to make yourself feel more successful too!
Do you enable your team to measure their personal success as well as your own or your organisation’s measures of success?
And how do you help your team to know when they’ve done a great job?
A sense of success helps your employees to feel pride in what they do, create, and achieve.
#3 Remember to make sure that your employees feel valued. And ask yourself how you can feel more valued too!
Being appreciated helps to increase motivation. We often fail to remember that including people in the plan, asking for their opinions, giving them our time and saying thank you, are often the most powerful ways of valuing people.
In what ways have you experienced these 3 elements – either as a leader or as a team member? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
